As President and Chief Executive Officer, Hassan Ahmed is responsible for the strategic direction and management of the company. Prior to joining Sonus in 1998, Dr. Ahmed was Executive Vice President and General Manager of Ascend Communications' Core Systems Division, which grew under his direction to a $1 billion business. Before Ascend's acquisition of Cascade Communications, he served as Cascade's Chief Technology Officer. Previously, Dr. Ahmed was President and Founder of WaveAccess, a pioneer in high-speed wireless network products. Additionally, he has held the positions of Product Engineering Manager, Analog Devices, and Director, VSLI Systems, Motorola Codex. He was also an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Management, Boston University. Dr. Ahmed holds a BSEE and MSAE from Carleton University and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Robert P. Badavas
President and Chief Executive Officer, TAC Worldwide

With more than 20 years of executive leadership in technology, venture capital, and business services, Bob has extensive experience guiding companies through all stages of development.  Prior to joining TAC Worldwide, Bob's executive level positions included Senior Partner and COO at Atlas Venture, a $2+ billion international venture capital firm, CEO of Cerulean Technology, a wireless application software company, and Senior Vice President and CFO of Chipcom Corporation, a network computing company that he helped to bring public.

In 2003, he was selected as a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, an award given annually by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations to recognize distinguished Americans of various ethnic origins for their outstanding contributions to the United States. Bob holds a B.S. in accounting, with high honors, from Bentley College, and currently serves as a trustee of the college.

Randy Battat
President and Chief Executive Officer

Named CEO of the Year by the Massachusetts Network Communications Council in April 2005, Randy joined Airvana from Motorola, where he was most recently Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Internet and Networking Group, responsible for a full line of wireline and wireless access solutions, broadband communications, corporate networking, wireless content services and platform software. Prior to Motorola, Randy spent thirteen years at Apple Computer where he held several strategic positions, including Vice President of the PowerBook Division, and Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing. Randy holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.  Randy is also the recipient of the New England Technology Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2004 Award.

Gururaj "Desh" Deshpande
Co-founder and Chairman, Sycamore Networks

Dr. Gururaj "Desh" Deshpande is a networking visionary with an impressive track record, having co-founded and brought public two highly successful startups. In 1991, Dr. Deshpande started Cascade Communications with a vision to create a new public network for global computer connectivity. Six years later, Cascade had grown from a one-person startup to a $500 million company with 900 employees, at which point Ascend Communications acquired it for $3.7 billion. The following year, Dr. Deshpande co-founded Sycamore Networks with the vision of creating next-generation optical networking technology to revolutionize the public network backbone. Within two years, the company had completed a successful IPO and earned numerous awards. Previously, Dr. Deshpande co-founded Coral Network Corporation in 1988 and was with the company until founding Cascade. Dr. Deshpande holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in India, an M.E. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick in Canada, and a Ph.D. in Data Communications from Queens University in Canada.

Paul J. Ferri
Founding Partner, Matrix Partners

Mr. Ferri has been a venture capitalist for more than 25 years, and was the Founding partner of Matrix Partners in 1982. Prior to Matrix, he founded Hellman Ferri Investment Associates (1978 to 1988) and was a general partner of WestVen Management (1970 to 1978).

Mr. Ferri serves or previously served as a director of Applix, Inc., Argon Networks, Inc., ArrowPoint Communications, Inc., Ascend Communications, Inc., Atria Software, Inc. Banctec, Inc., Bytex Corp., Cascade Communications Corporation, Paradyne Corporation, Redstone Communications, Inc., Sonus Networks, Inc., Stratus Computer, Inc., Sycamore Networks, Inc., VideoServer, Inc., and Xyplex Inc.

Mr. Ferri holds an M.B.A. from Columbia University, an M.S.E.E. from Polytechnic Institute of New York, and a B.S.E.E. from Cornell University.

Anthony Thornley
Former President and Chief Operating Officer of QUALCOMM

Anthony Thornley’s career has both spanned and shaped today’s mobile communications industry.  From 2002-2005 he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of QUALCOMM Inc.  Previous roles there include Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President.  Prior to joining QUALCOMM, he was with Nortel Networks for sixteen years serving in a variety of financial and information systems management positions. He has also worked for Coopers and Lybrand in public accounting.

Mr.  Thornley currently serves as a director of Cavium Networks, Calloway Golf, KMF Audio Inc., and Proximetry. He received his BS degree in Chemistry from the University of Manchester, England.

Sanjeev Verma
Vice President of Business Development
Co-founder

Prior to founding Airvana, Sanjeev was most recently Director of Marketing and Business Development for Broadband Networking at Motorola, responsible for wireless and wireline broadband residential gateway solutions. Sanjeev has an extensive software development background, which includes leading the development of Motorola's first V.34 modem. He was also a senior manager in Motorola's strategy group responsible for the Internet and Networking Group's broadband networking strategy. Sanjeev holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island.
